Whether you need general lighting or task lighting, there are a number of things to consider when choosing the right downlights. Generally, these are a versatile option for illuminating any room, from the hallway to the kitchen. The key is to work out how many lights you need for a given space and how to position them correctly.
Downlights can either be set flush to the ceiling or recessed for a sloping ceiling which allows you to adjust the angle of the light. If you want to install them over a bathroom mirror, make sure you position the downlight over the basin to avoid casting shadows. You can also install dimmers on certain downlights to change the mood.
Downlights can be a cost-effective way to light your home. If you currently have halogen downlights installed, making the switch to LED can be a great cost and energy saver over the long term. You can also save energy by installing downlights on separate switches to limit the amount of lights you switch on at one time.
Table or floor lamps are an easy and affordable way to set the tone in your home. Placing a floor lamp next to a sofa or armchair can make a room feel cosy and relaxing. Whether you set these up individually or group a few together, decorative spotlights can lend a stylish look to the space and can be adjusted to change the mood of the room. Pointing them towards the ceiling will create a softer, more subdued lighting effect or you can use them to draw the eye to specific features like artworks or furniture.
Wall lights come in a range of styles to suit any space and are a great way to create accent lighting around the home or line your hallway. You can use these as bedside lights to add a luxurious hotel feel to your bedroom or add warm, ambient light to your living or dining rooms.
