How to install an ironing centre

Overview

Add a modern touch to your laundry by installing an ironing centre. As well as helping to reduce the clutter, ironing centres make ironing easy to set up, easy to use and easy to pack away. We'll show you how to mount the ironing centre, attach the door and put on the side panels.

Steps

1Install a powerpoint

Before you start installing the ironing centre, you might need to call in a licensed electrician to install a powerpoint. Also, read the instructions before you start the job.

2Find the studs

Use the stud finder to find the studs on the wall that you're going to mount the ironing centre on. Mark their location on the wall with a pencil. You need to find six places where you can drill screws into the wall to properly secure the ironing centre.

3Measure and mark where the ironing centre will go

On the wall where the ironing centre will be mounted, measure 680mm up from the floor. Mark this spot. This is where the bottom of the ironing centre will sit. Measure and mark the centre of the wall. Measure the width of the ironing centre.

4Pre-drill the holes

Transfer onto the back of the ironing centre, where the fixing points are on the wall. Use the drill to pre-drill the six holes into the back of the ironing centre.

5Mount the ironing centre

You will need someone to help you lift the ironing centre into place. Check with a spirit level to make sure the centre is sitting straight. Use the drill and screws to secure the ironing centre to the wall.

6Hang the door

Line the holes in the brackets on the door, with the holes on the ironing centre. Use the drill and screws to attach the door to the ironing centre.

7Attach the door handle

Line up the handle with the holes on the door of the ironing centre. Insert the screws through the back of the door and into the handles. Use the drill to tighten the screws and secure the handle.

8The side and top panels

If your ironing centre isn't recessed into the wall, you will need to attach the side and top panels. There is also a channel in the panels where you can run the power cord on the iron.

9Attach the side and top panels

Place the rubber strips from the kit on the top edge of the ironing centre. Place the top panel on top of the rubber strip. Slot the side panel into place. Use the drill and screws to secure the panels.

10Secure the side panels

Open the ironing centre and drop the ironing board down. On the left hand-side there are two pre-drilled holes. Drill screws into these to keep the panels secure and flush.
