/Moving home can be a stressful business, but you can make it less so – and reduce the potential for damage – by investing in quality packing materials. Wrap & Move is sharing practical tips to help you with your next move.
Start with the right box. For weightier items such as books and kitchenware, choose red heavy-duty moving cartons, which are designed to suit heavy loads. For lighter items (cushions, toys, etc.), opt for the blue light-duty boxes.
Zip-up moving bags are perfect for linen, towels and clothing – they’re lightweight and have carry handles. Specialised moving cartons include a convenient portable wardrobe (Porta Robe) with hanging rail, and 60-inch TV cartons are also ideal for mirrors, slim paintings and computer screens.
Dividers and inserts can be used inside cartons to transport glasses, bottles and small, fragile items.
Secure moving blankets around white goods and large pieces of furniture, and tape table and chair legs with padded corrugated paper wrap. To pack breakables, wrap each item individually with butchers' paper or popular honeycomb paper wrap. Ultra-fragile items are best enveloped in bubble wrap.
Good quality packaging tape should be used around the seams of each box – choose from light or heavy-duty options. Tape that comes with a ‘fragile’ label will help people who are handling cartons be aware of precious breakables inside. If you want to be super-efficient, label each box by room with colour-coded tape.
If you’re after a more eco-friendly move, go for self-locking moving cartons – no tape required! The same applies to honeycomb paper wrap – just scrunch it around each item for filling and protection. These can be recycled (along with butchers' paper, corrugated paper and cardboard dividers and inserts) as soon as you’re done with your move.
Some products are not available at all Bunnings stores, but may be ordered.

Asbestos, lead-based paints and copper chromium arsenic (CCA) treated timber are health hazards you need to look out for when renovating older homes. These substances can easily be disturbed when renovating and exposure to them can cause a range of life-threatening diseases and conditions including cancer. For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer or visit our Health & Safety page.
