An organised garage wall showcases the Ryobi LINK rail system neatly holding tools, storage bins, shelves, a ladder, a hose, and other equipment

Overview

If your garage is feeling disorganised, installing a modular wall-mounted garage storage system is a great way to get everything off the floor and neatly arranged. The Ryobi LINK system is designed to work with a range of compatible stackable storage options, including toolboxes, cupboards, drawers and rolling units, so you can create a custom garage storage solution that suits your space and grows with your needs. It’s easy to start small with just a few key pieces, then build your setup over time as your collection of tools and gear expands.

Safety tip: Always wear the appropriate safety equipment (safety glasses, gloves, ear muffs and a mask, for example) and always follow the instructions for the product or equipment.

Steps

1Choose your wall space

Start by deciding where on your garage wall you want to install the rail system. Choose a clear section that gives you enough room to expand your garage organisation in future if needed. Walk the space and check for any obstructions like PowerPoints, pipes or switches before marking anything up.

2Plan the layout

This is where the Ryobi LINK rail system really shines - it’s designed to work in almost any setup, whether you’re using a full wall or just a tight corner. Map out where you want each rail and accessory to go. Think about what items you need to store and how often you’ll access them.

3Locate the studs

If you're installing on plasterboard, the garage storage  rails need to be secured directly into the timber studs behind the wall to support the weight of your gear. Use a stud finder to locate the studs, and mark the fixing points along the path of your first LINK rail.

4Mark and level the rail

Hold the Ryobi LINK rail against the wall in the desired position. Use a spirit level to check it’s straight, then mark your drill points at each stud location.

5Install the rail

Drill pilot holes into the marked stud locations, then secure the rail using timber screws. This gives the system enough strength to safely support heavier accessories like cabinets or tool holders. If you’re working with a brick or concrete wall, use a hammer drill with a masonry bit to drill the fixing holes. Insert wall plugs, then fasten the rail with masonry screws. No matter the surface, make sure the rail is solidly fixed before moving on - it’s the backbone of your storage system.

6Clip in Ryobi LINK hooks

Once the rail is up, start with Ryobi LINK hooks - ideal for garden tools, extension cords or even ladders. To attach, line up the hook with the groove on the rail, tilt it slightly upward, push in, and press down until it clicks securely into place.

7Add a shelf

Next, install a Ryobi LINK shelf. Hook the top edge onto the rail, then press the bottom in until it clicks. Use garage shelves to store small toolboxes, spray bottles or supplies you want off the bench and within easy reach.

8Install tool holders

For hand tools or power tools you use frequently, clip in Ryobi LINK ONE+ tool holders. These give you fast, secure access to everyday gear without taking up bench space.

9Mount the cabinet

The Ryobi LINK wall-mountable cabinet is a lockable, steel storage unit - great for tools, batteries and chargers. It’s designed to hang from the rail or be fixed directly to studs. Because it’s heavier than other pieces, get someone to help you lift and position it. Hook the top onto the rail and push the bottom in until the locking mechanism clicks into place. Then continue expanding the system as your storage needs grow and enjoy everything having a place in the garage.
