Cash spent: $17,554 (Budget: $15,000)

I am instantly struck by the depth of colour,” said Shaynna Blaze. “They’ve really gone heavy in detail and energy in here.

Blue bedroom with a double bed, textured blue wallpaper and blue checked linen. The bed is on a brown checked rug and there is a circular recess in the wall with a bench seat and clothing hooks.
Emma and Ben used colour combined with a playful vibe to create fun and inspiring kids bedrooms.

Emma and Ben created a couple of thoughtful, yet fun spaces with their kids room designs. In the first room, the Victorian couple created a whimsical and pretty bedroom designed for girls with garden fairy vibes, and a pink and peach colour scheme.

Olive bedroom with twin beds featuring blush linen and deep blush bucle bead heads backing onto floral wallpaper. Also showcasing a wardrobe and desk on the side.,

A wallpaper feature wall behind the beds won praise and created a strong impression on the judges. “This feels great; it’s a lot softer,” said Marty Fox, who liked the option of the twin beds in this space. “I really like this room. It’s very marketable and has something special.”

Cream bedroom with a mirror that is showing twin beds featuring blush linen. There is a teepee in the corner and fairy stickers on the wall.

The second space of House 1 was aimed at teenage boys with more of a musician/skater feel and a darker, moody palette created with wallpaper.

Blue bedroom with a double bed, textured blue wallpaper and blue checked linen. The bed is on a brown checked rug and there is a circular recess in the wall with a bench seat and clothing hooks.

The point of difference? A showstopping circular niche on the feature wall, created with plaster and used as both a bookcase and bench seat. The timber bench and floating shelves in the niche won praise from Darren Palmer who said they complemented the wooden bed beautifully.

Design tips:

Plasterboard is surprisingly versatile and can be used in many different ways beyond just walls. Flexible forms can be used to create curves, staircases or niches and only need a paint job in the colour of your choice to be finished well.

What colour paint did they use?

The colours that Emma and Ben used in their kids’ bedrooms are Golden Lamp and White Comfort by British Paints.
