Week 1: Britt and Taz

The room: Bathroom

Cash spent: $21,350(Budget: $20,000)

“I love the fluting, I love the texture on the floor, and I do love the beautiful wall tiles,” said judge Shaynna Blaze. “And I love how elevated it feels with the large opening for the Velux.”

WA couple Britt and Taz created a warm organic feel in their bathroom, their first room on The Block this year.

In their first room of the 2025 Block season, WA police officers Britt and Taz showcased the modern organic luxury style they want to create throughout the house. They also added lots of curves throughout the room, including a curved shower shelf on the rear wall of the room, complemented by an open shower with a fluted glass shower screen.

The judges approved of their tile choices (the couple wanted “texture, texture, texture”, said Taz during the week), with Darren Palmer praising the shapes and colours of the tiles chosen.

It was an ambitious undertaking too, as Britt and Taz tiled floor to ceiling in the wet area and added French patterned tiles on the floor.

Always looking at the real estate perspective, judge Marty Fox loved the free-standing bath the couple chose, which he says always adds value to a home. He was also a big fan of the floor tiles.

The subtle and tonal material palette included a pale timber wall-hung vanity (with strip lighting underneath), and a complementary stone top. Darren Palmer said he loved the vanity.

The look of the bathroom had a soft, almost Scandi appeal, matching the exterior of House 3. “I really like the choice of this timber in relationship to the exterior of the building,” said Darren of the vanity.

A textured-look wallpaper was the finishing touch to the room and meant that the couple didn’t have to complete much painting in the first week.

Design tip: Wallpaper can be used in wet areas, particularly as long as it is located away from the splash zone – and you have good ventilation. Britt and Taz also chose a vinyl substrate, which is ideal for a bathroom.
