Electrical drum brakes are similar to those used in the automotive industry and are reliable and efficient. The backing plate assembly comes fully equipped with everything needed to be mounted straight onto the mounting bracket, which is more convenient than replacing individual parts. Backing plates are available in left and right configurations and come with park brake provisions. Trailers over 2000kg gross trailer mass (GTM) must be used with a break away unit, in order to meet safety requirements. Upon activation, the brake drum comes into contact with the brake shoes which are pushed outwards to increase friction and reduce rotation drum.
