SUITABLE FOR

African violets (Saintpaulia) and other popular members of the gesneriad family including florists' gloxinia, lipstick plant (Aeschynanthus), Columnea, Streptocarpus, flame violet (Episcia)
Cyclamen and other flowering indoor plants
Perfect for wick watering (where a 'material wick' is used to draw water up into the potting mix from a reservoir below the plant pot) as well as conventional top watering. The reservoir may also include a soluble fertiliser
Safe to use on new plants - the controlled release of nutrients means it will not burn soft leaves or tender young roots

HOW TO USE

Use African Violet & Cyclamen Mix straight from the bag - don't mix it with other materials. Close the bag tightly after use
Choose a clean container with large drainage holes and partly fill with fresh mix out of the bag. If using wick watering, ensure the wick is coiled in the base of the pot and protrudes through one of the drainage holes before adding any mix
Carefully lift the plant to be potted from its existing pot. Gently tease the old mix from the outside of the rootball, and carefully remove any damaged or twisted roots
Place the plant in the centre of the pot. Fill in with African Violet & Cyclamen Mix to within 2-3cm of the top rim of the pot and press lightly
Tap the new pot or container gently on the bench to help the new mix settle in and around the roots - do not pack it down
Initial watering of the plant after potting is essential to ensure the mix is thoroughly wet, then allow it to drain freely. If necessary top the mix up again to the suggested level
If using wick watering, place the wick into the reservoir filled with water or nutrient solution to initiate the wicking process. Make sure the wick is wet before putting it into the reservoir, otherwise it may not work correctly
Place the pot or container in a sheltered position out of the direct sun for a few days to allow the plant to settle and acclimatise before moving back to its permanent home

WHEN TO USE

Potting mixes can be used at any time of the year
Repotting established pot plants is best done either in Spring or Autumn - avoid Winter or Summer as the extremes of temperature may stress plants
Flowering plants should be repotted after they have flowered - enjoy the blooms first!

TECHNICAL DETAILS

The low salt formulation prevents chemical burning of the leaf tips of these soft-leaved plants. It also minimises the potential for a salt crust developing on the surface of the mix when plants are wick watered

High calcium and potassium encourage strong stems and prolonged flowering

Coir, made from coconut fibre, is a renewable resource
