Crowd at an indoor music festival with smoke and glowing signs.
Planning to hit a music festival soon? A doof stick is the ultimate way to help your crew find you in the crowd – and it’s a chance to show off a bit of personality while you’re at it. Whether you’re going for something bold, quirky or just easy to spot, making your own is simple with a few supplies and a bit of imagination.

What you’ll need to make a doof stick

You’ll find everything you need to make a doof stick at your local store:

How to build a doof stick

Here’s how to build your very own doof stick.

1. Pick a theme

Start with a simple idea – maybe it’s your nickname, a favourite animal, or something completely random. The more recognisable, the better.

2. Prep your pole

Clean your telescopic pole or broom handle and decorate it with paint or coloured tape if you like. Telescopic poles are great for packing and easy to spot from a distance.

3. Attach your topper

Use hot glue, cable ties or duct tape to secure your topper to the end of the pole. Make sure it’s firmly attached – you don’t want it flying off mid-set.

4. Add some lights

Wrap fairy lights or LED strips around the pole. Secure them with cable ties and pop the battery pack into a ziplock bag to protect it from dust or rain.

5. Don’t forget to decorate

Go for glitter, stickers, foam shapes – whatever fits your theme. The goal is to make it bright, fun and easy to spot in a crowd.

Final festival tips

Before you hit the road don’t forget to check these last-minute tips:

  • Keep it lightweight – you’ll be holding it for hours
  • Make it collapsible – easier to transport and store
  • Test your lights – check battery life before you go
  • Be mindful of others – avoid sharp edges or anything that could poke someone
