Australians have always been fond of outdoor entertaining – let’s face it, the casual weekend barbecue is almost a national tradition. Whether it’s just for family, or a catch-up with neighbours and friends, utilising our backyard is a wonderful way to entertain.
And now, as the weather warms and the days get longer, it’s time to head outside again. Here’s how you can create the perfect spot to enjoy some relaxed outdoor dining.
If you have spent the winter inside, your outside spaces might be looking a little tired or in need of a tidy, so take the opportunity to refresh, elevate and update your outdoor furniture.
Start by giving the area a thorough wash, perhaps with a high-pressure water gun to get rid of dirt, mould and other nasties. Then look to revitalise the furniture and accessories. If you’re looking for something new, try these elegant pieces from Home Bazar.
Hardy enough to withstand the weather, beautiful enough to impress guests, this new collection perfectly reflects the trend towards natural materials and tactile surfaces in furniture. All designed for outdoor use, they are even easy to assemble.
The range includes a gorgeous travertine-style dining table with matching stools, as well as contemporary rope chairs designed for outdoor use. It’s all about the look of luxury without the upkeep.
The showstopper of the collection is the Taormina outdoor dining table, which has the appearance of marble with its raw, organic finish and subtle, neutral tones. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the texture and charm of natural stone without the high cost or heavy weight, bringing a touch of sophistication to your backyard. With a 122cm diameter, its round shape allows it to be flexible with guests, or it can be used as the location for a generous grazing station or buffet if you are catering for a crowd.
The outdoor table is made from glass fibre-reinforced concrete and is finished with a faux travertine effect. The intricate process used by Home Bazar captures stone’s porous texture using dip-dyeing and 3D printing techniques. The table can be paired with matching stools, which can also act as elegant side tables.
The other key elements of the range are the Paterson rope chairs. They come in either a black or natural colourway and are crafted from steel, which makes them ideal for all-weather use. The seat and back of the outdoor dining chairs are intricately woven with high-quality rope, providing a natural, breathable texture.

Asbestos, lead-based paints and copper chromium arsenic (CCA) treated timber are health hazards you need to look out for when renovating older homes. These substances can easily be disturbed when renovating and exposure to them can cause a range of life-threatening diseases and conditions including cancer. For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer or visit our Health & Safety page.
