How to make a Halloween ghost family for your garden

Overview

This budget-friendly project re-invents classic bedsheet ghosts as Halloween decorations for the garden. Use plant hoops for the bodies and hanging baskets for the heads, join them with duct tape and twist ties, then just drape in sheets to create a Halloween ghost family – complete with dog! Simply stick the Halloween ghost family into the ground and use fairy lights to give them an otherworldly glow. Once spooky season is over, take them apart and re-use the materials.

Steps

    Attach the hoops

    For each parent, remove a hanging basket liner and attach it to the top of a 120cm U hoop with duct tape. Repeat with a hanging basket wire frame and a 60cm U hoop to make the child. Push the hoops into the ground.

    Shape the frame

    For the dog, secure a basket frame to the top of a 60cm U hoop with tape. Cut two 650mm twist ties, shape into pointed ears and attach to the frame top. Cut a 500mm twist tie, shape into a nose, and secure to the basket front. Push the hoop into the ground.

    Finish the details

    Arrange fairy lights over each ghost frame, then drape in queen-size sheets for the parent ghosts and the single sheet halves for the child and dog ghosts. Cut eight oval eyes, and a dog nose and mouth from duct tape and apply to the sheets.
