A stainless steel splashback being lifted into place on a kitchen wall

Overview

Find out you how easy it is to install a stainless steel splashback in your kitchen. We'll show you how to prepare the surface and apply the right amount of silicone to stick it to the wall. You'll also see an easy way to hold the splashback in place while it sets.

Steps

1Prepare to install the stainless steel splashback

Make sure the splashback is the right width for your cooktop. If you need to install it onto tiles, check that the tiles are level and set at the same height as your splashback. Now remove the protective covering and apply beads of silicone every 100mm along the back of the splashback.

2Install the stainless steel splashback

Position the splashback on the wall. In this case, we are hooking the top lip of our splashback over the top of the tiles. Then wedge some packers under the base of the splashback to hold it tightly against the wall while the silicone dries. Finish the job by wiping the surface clean with a rag.

These substances can easily be disturbed when renovating and exposure to them can cause a range of life-threatening diseases and conditions including cancer. For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer or visit our Health & Safety page.
