Person attaching gas strut to door.

Overview

Some flat pack cupboards come with the option of soft closing doors. We’ll teach you how to install the hinges and gas struts that are included in the pack. You will see that this is a simple job for anyone who can use a drill.

Steps

1Install the hinges for the door

Remove the hinges from their plates by pushing on the release tabs. Then screw the plates into position on the cabinet. Now screw the hinges into place on the back of the door. Attach the door to the cabinet by clicking the hinges back on to the plates.

2Install the gas struts for the door

There are several pre-drilled holes in the sides of the cabinet. These are where you need to screw the round plates for the gas struts. Then screw the rectangular plates into the pre-drilled holes on the door. Now simply click the struts into place on the two plates.

Health & Safety

Asbestos, lead-based paints and copper chromium arsenic (CCA) treated timber are health hazards you need to look out for when renovating older homes. These substances can easily be disturbed when renovating and exposure to them can cause a range of life-threatening diseases and conditions including cancer. For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer or visit our Health & Safety page.
