Time always seems in short supply, with lots to do and never enough time in which to get it done. If cleaning is a task you put off until you have more time, these seven easy cleaning hacks – paired with the right tools – can make a home spruce-up quick and easy.
Safety tip: Always wear the appropriate safety equipment (safety glasses, gloves, ear muffs and a mask, for example) and always follow the instructions for the product or equipment. Store products out of the reach of children and pets.
Nothing transforms a dirty bathroom quite like a good scrub. Save your hands, knees, time and energy by using an extendable power scrubber like the battery-operated Ryobi ONE+ 18V Telescopic Pole Scrubber*. Scuff marks and handprints let down painted walls and skirtings, but if you're not ready for a paint touch-up, try a magic eraser to deal with scuffs, stains, dirty marks and any kids’ crayon and pencil scribbles. Dampen the sponge, scrub the mark on the wall gently, then wipe over the area with a clean damp cloth.

If your timber, metal or rattan outdoor furniture is wearing a coat of grime, a pressure washer will get it gleaming. Pick one with a built-in detergent tank in case you need a cleaning product for extra grunt. Use it outside on a sunny day so your furniture will dry quickly, and be cautious with the settings. It’s tempting to go hard to blast away dirt and mould, but operating the washer at high pressure too close to the surface of your furniture could cause damage, especially to timber or rattan. If you want to remove pet fur from rugs, carpets and fabric furniture, use a squeegee. Apply moderate pressure to scrape the rubber blade of the squeegee over the floor or fabric to gather clumps of embedded fur, then vacuum them up. Fast and easy!
For cleaning outdoor areas (deck, patio, paths, driveway and more) with minimal effort, let a proprietary cleaner do the work for you. Spray it on, leave it to work for the recommended time, then scrub off any residue with a brush and rinse well.

The base of your oven is a magnet for baked-on grease and food residue, but there are some handy cleaning hacks that can shift the dirt and grime easily without the need for harsh chemicals. Wearing gloves, mix together one part dishwashing liquid with about four parts cleaning bi-carb into a smooth paste. Remove the oven racks and trays and clean them separately with warm water and dishwashing liquid. Spread the paste up the sides and on the floor of the cold oven, avoiding the heating elements. Leave for a few hours or overnight and then clean off the paste with a damp cloth, rinsing it frequently in warm water. Most of the grime should come off easily. Repeat until you’ve thoroughly cleaned off all the paste before replacing the racks and using your oven.

Revive dull and spotty stainless-steel cutlery fast with Bar Keepers’ Friend. Simply wet the cutlery, wipe over with a little cleanser on a damp cloth, rinse it thoroughly and polish with a clean, dry cloth. This cleaning product also works on other surfaces around the home, too – follow the instructions on the package and always wash cutlery thoroughly before use.
