All aboard!

A well-designed deck is where precious summer memories begin. For one that combines good looks with quality and longevity, look no further than Ekodeck, Australia’s number-one choice for composite decking.

Made from more than 80 per cent reclaimed and recycled materials, Ekodeck is a UV-stabilised, weather-resistant composite decking product that won’t splinter or cup, and is fully compliant with Australian standards. Plus, it never needs to be oiled or sealed, so you can spend less time on maintenance and more time enjoying your new deck.

Ekodeck, with its unrivalled aesthetics, durability and availability, is also designed as a D.I.Y.er’s dream, using a simple clip and groove system, Quickfix, to fix the boards in place, and delivering a professional look within the skillset of the home D.I.Y.er. Follow these steps to get a gorgeous Ekodeck at your place!

10 Steps to your new deck

1. Plan

Design the layout of your deck using the Ekodeck Deck Planner. We say: if you can draw it, you can build it! The Ekodeck planner will create a master plan with dimensions, plus provide a complete cut list, product numbers and calculate wastage.

Tip: Ekodeck Designer Series boards are doublesided, giving you the option to mix and match for a uniquely stylish look.

2. Remove old timber decking

Cut existing boards along the joists, then lever them off.

Tip: Cutting boards into smaller pieces makes them much easier to remove.

3. Review the framework

Check the structural integrity of the subframe and replace any joists and bearers as needed. Make sure joists are spaced no more than 450mm apart.

4. Apply joist tape

Seal timber joists with PVC joist tape to protect against rot. Note: Ekodeck is a composite and won’t rot or deteriorate, so you need your framework to last!

Tip: If you’re considering installing deck lighting, run the cabling at this point, as this will make it easier down the track*.

5. Start with edge boards

Begin with the Edge Boards and install using C-clips. Simply screw the clips down to slot the Edge Boards into place.

6. Lay the decking boards

To lay the grooved boards, place a ‘standard’ clip into the groove of a board at every joist. These automatically gap the boards for easy installation.

Tip: For the best finish, cut boards longer than the length required, to be trimmed later.

7. Lock boards into position

Place a ‘locking’ clip at the centre joist of each board, instead of a standard clip. These stop the boards shifting or coming out of alignment.

8. Trim the boards

Once all the boards are laid, use a circular saw and a straightedge to trim all the boards to length.

9. Drop in breaker board

If the deck is designed with a breaker board (which runs perpendicular), drop it in and secure with the standard clips.

10. Wash and enjoy!

Give your new deck a wash with warm, soapy water and a soft broom, hose it down and you’re done!
