Week 12: Emma and Ben

The room: Front yard and facade

Score: 37/40 (second place)

“I just love the experience of coming out and seeing that driveway rollup and bend in with the trees in the background,” said Marty Fox. “It’s so grand.”

Expectant parents Emma and Ben spent all their savings on their final “room” – the front yard and facade.

The couple created a clean and classic front yard for their facade, featuring a dark flecked driveway, which was flanked by two mature bottle trees that framed the centre entrance.

It was all about curves in the right places for Emma and Ben, with a rolling wraparound lawn surrounding the house, which the couple named “The Hills” as a reference to the rolling hills of Daylesford around them.

The front entry included a timber deck with ramp, matched by another deck outside their main bedroom, with the timber creating a warm contract to the clean lines of the charcoal cladding of the building.

Planting featured a selection of natives lining the garden beds, reflecting the natural landscape around, with silvery foliage dominating. “You have got a garden here that is planted perfectly,” said guest judge Dave Franklin. “It’s pretty hard to beat.” A bird bath was a nice finishing touch.
