Week 7: Han and Can

The room: Kitchen

Cash spent: $20,845 (Budget: $10,000)

Score: 26.5/30 (fourth place)

“It feels very flamboyant,” said Marty Fox. “It’s got this level of luxury and sophistication that is a little bit extra, but not off-putting."

Modern kitchen from The Block with marble island, arched cooking nook, white cabinetry, and stone backsplash.

Han and Can included their signature curves in their kitchen design, complementing the shapes featured throughout their completed rooms. It was a cohesive response that won approval from the judges, who can see the house coming together as a whole.

The girls chose a pared back and neutral palette, layering whites on white, reflecting the aesthetic of their adjoining living and dining room. It was an approach that particularly won approval from Marty Fox and Darren Palmer. Sleek white cabinetry created an elegant appearance that Han described as “very calming and relaxing”.

Open-plan kitchen and dining area from The Block, featuring a marble island with bar stools, built-in appliances, wine fridge, and a dining table with pink chairs under a modern gold light fixture.

A showstopping curved stone splashback (to match their oversized island bench) beautifully complemented the texture of the venetian plaster surrounding the rangehood (which also mirrored the plaster in the fireplace in the living room).

A pot-filler in brass added a touch of bling and practicality, while an inset with a wine fridge and small bar area completed the offering.

All judges approved of the circular skylights, which flooded the room with light and Shaynna Blaze noted they were consistent with the rest of the house, praising the consistency of the girls’ design.

Bright, modern kitchen from The Block, featuring a marble island with four bar stools, arched range hood with stone backsplash, white cabinetry, gold fixtures, and a contemporary glass bubble chandelier.

Design tip

The girls added LED strip lighting inside the drawers throughout their kitchen, which added an extra level of functionality – and a touch of glamour.

What colour paint did they use?

The paint colours that Han and Can used in their kitchen were ‘White Comfort’, ‘Cane Chair’ and ‘Love Note’ by British Paints.
