Bunnings responds to passing of new retail barring orders legislation in WA

We welcome the passing of new Retail Barring Orders legislation in Western Australia, which represents an important development in strengthening protections for retail workers and the customers they serve.

Violence, abuse and threatening behaviour remains a major issue and has no place in retail environments. These new powers, which pleasingly include interim barring orders, will provide retailers, police and the courts with another tool to help deter repeat offending and better protect team members and customers.

The safety of our team, customers and suppliers is our number one priority. No one should experience violence or abuse while doing their job, and these reforms will help strengthen protections for retail workers across WA.

While this is a significant step forward, there remains more work to be done to address the serious issue of retail crime. We remain committed to working with governments, industry and law enforcement on measures that improve safety for retail workers, promote consistency across jurisdictions and help create safer communities.
