In response to new protections for SA retail workers

We welcome the commencement of Workplace Protection Orders (WPOs) in South Australia, marking a significant step in the ongoing effort to provide stronger protections for retail workers and the customers they serve.

This important reform sends a clear message that violence, abuse and threatening behaviour have no place in retail environments.

The safety of our team and customers is our number one priority, and we acknowledge the South Australian Government for listening to the voices of retailers, industry groups and unions, and taking decisive action to help keep frontline retail workers safe.

WPOs will empower employers and authorities to respond more effectively to unacceptable behaviour. Importantly, they will provide greater reassurance for team members who deserve to feel safe at work.

While this is an important step forward, there remains more work to be done to ensure consistent and robust protections for retail workers across all jurisdictions in Australia and New Zealand.

We will continue to advocate for stronger, nationally aligned measures that prioritise the safety and wellbeing of retail teams. We remain committed to working collaboratively with governments, industry and unions to create safer workplaces for everyone.
