Bunnings expands Zelora to the ACT making home solar batteries and EV charging more accessible

Bunnings' home electrification offer, Zelora, is now available in the ACT, giving more Canberra households access to affordable solar, battery and electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions as energy costs remain a key concern for many Australians 1. 

Zelora is easily monitored via an online app and provides homeowners with solar and battery systems through either outright purchase or via a simple monthly plan, removing the significant upfront cost that can be a barrier for many households.  

Customers who elect for the monthly plan option own their system outright at the end of the term, with installation, monitoring, optimisation and ongoing support included. 

The expansion means Zelora, which is backed by Bunnings and delivered in partnership with Intellihub, is now accessible in metropolitan areas across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia, as well as the ACT. 

The offer now includes EV charging to help Australians get more value from their solar energy, with customers having the option of adding a home EV charger to their package.

Bunnings Chief Operating Officer, Ryan Baker, said the ACT expansion reflects growing customer interest in practical ways to better manage household energy costs.

"Across Australia, we're seeing strong interest from customers who want to electrify their homes but are often put off by the upfront cost and complexity involved," Baker said. 

"Zelora removes that barrier by providing a straightforward monthly plan model that gives customers access to solar and battery technology, ongoing support and peace of mind, all without the need for a large upfront investment.

"We know cost of living remains front of mind for many households, and we're pleased to be able to bring a solution to more ACT residents that can help them take greater control of how and when they use energy at home."

Intellihub CEO Wes Ballintine said the energy transition happens one home at a time. 

“Through Zelora, we're making it easier for more Australians to access the technology they need to electrify their homes, lower their energy costs and participate in a smarter, more flexible energy system”, Ballintine said. 

“By removing the significant upfront investment typically required to install a home battery system, Zelora gives households a simple and affordable pathway to take control of their energy future."

Early customer results have been encouraging. Analysis of a sample of Zelora customers in New South Wales found an average 25 per cent reduction in electricity usage charges over a three month summer period, including subscription costs. Excluding subscription costs, the estimated reduction averaged 88 per cent 2.

The expansion means more than 90 per cent of ACT residents will have access to Zelora. 

As Bunnings continues to expand its home electrification offer nationally, preparation is also underway to support future entry into Western Australia.
