Overview

It’s time to deck the halls with your own handmade creations. Customise a faux native-foliage Christmas wreath with two-tone bells made from painted terracotta pots – hang from a jumbo adhesive hook for a damage-free option. Renter-friendly project anyone can try!

Steps

1Paint the pots

Pour paint and water into a paint pot in a 2:1 ratio and mix thoroughly. Working on a drop sheet, apply diluted paint to the outside of five pots with a paintbrush, wipe excess with a cloth; let dry. Repeat for second and third coats; let dry after each.

2Spray the pots

Cover the painted pots with scrap paper and painter’s tape. Spray the inside of the pots and five beads with several light coats of gold metallic paint; let dry after each coat. Remove paper, then spray the outside of the pots with sealer; let dry.

3Assemble the bells

Cut five lengths of rope: 400mm, 500mm, 600mm, 700mm and 800mm long. Knot one end, thread on a bead then tie another knot at 120mm. Feed rope through pot drainage hole. Repeat for each pot, tie rope tops together, trim excess and hang from hook.

4Keep in mind...

  • When painting or spray-painting, always wear the recommended safety equipment (such as eye protection, a mask and gloves) and work in a well-ventilated area, covering surrounding areas with a drop sheet to avoid overspray.
  • Keep all paint and chemicals out of reach of children and pets.
  • Ensure hanging hook is suited to your wall type and rated to take the weight of the finished project.
  • Paint colours may vary on application.
