Safety tip: Always wear the appropriate safety equipment (safety glasses, gloves, ear muffs and a mask, for example) and always follow the instructions for the product or equipment.

1Choose the right application

The rotary tool is a versatile powerhouse, offering a wide range of accessories for various purposes. From sanding discs and cutting wheels to grinding stones and polishing pads, there's an accessory for every task. A few even include high speed cutters for carving and engraving, router bits for routing jobs, and drill bits for small drilling jobs.

2Secure the attachment to the tool

With your selected application in mind, attach the accessory to your rotary tool. Insert the bit into the collet of the tool, ensuring a secure fit. Depending on your tool, use a wrench to firmly secure the accessory in place to ensure safe and efficient operation, if needed.

3Adjust the speed

To fine-tune the speed of your rotary tool, utilise the dial or slider, taking into account the specific requirements of the accessory you're using. The method of speed adjustment may vary depending on the accessory.

4Apply light pressure

As you begin using your rotary tool, remember to apply light pressure initially. This approach helps reduce the risk of breaking the accessory or placing undue strain on the tool. Start with a gentle touch and gradually increase pressure as needed for efficient and safe operation.

5Control the motion

There are a variety of ways to hold the tool, so find what feels comfortable and gives you the best control. To get a feel, try different grips for different applications. Holding it like a pencil is great for intricate jobs, while firmly gripping the tool is more suitable for larger jobs. Practice and proper technique will help you avoid overheating your tool and prevent accidental grooves or scratches on the material you’re working with.

If your tool has a cord, make sure it’s off at the wall before you plug it in. Then, simply flick the switch on and practice adjusting your tool to different speeds.
