2Instructions

Day 1

  1. With your shopping list in hand, pop down to your local Bunnings to pick up everything you need to take on this project.
  2. Wash the wall(s) you intend to paint using the sugar soap, following the instructions on the label.
  3. Apply masking tape around the edges of areas you want to protect from paint, such as the ceiling, window frames or the skirting boards. Then use the drop sheet to cover the floor and furniture.
  4. Prep the paint using the instructions on the label. Using your paintbrush, "cut in" around the edges and corners of the wall, where the roller won't reach.
  5. Now load the roller with a reasonable amount of paint and start rolling the wall in an "M" pattern. Start closest to the natural light source and continue until the wall us evenly covered.
  6. Using an unloaded roller, gently roll down the wall to the skirting boards in a straight line with no pressure. Repeat this action – only this time, slight overlap your last movement so your roller rubs away any lines created by the previous stroke. Continue this across the area you have painted. This is known as "laying off", and creates a nice, even finish. Allow to dry for two hours.
  7. While the walls are drying, dust off your tween's chosen bedhead and prep it for painting.
  8. Apply one coat of paint to the bedhead and allow to dry for one hour … or pretend you're still working so you don't have to help prep dinner!

Day 2

  1. Finish off the walls with a second coat of paint. Allow to dry for two hours.
  2. Apply a second coat to the bedhead and allow to dry for an hour.
  3. Finish by showing off your incredible handywork to your friends and family or even share it on your socials.

3Update your tween's room
