Bedroom with beige walls, a bed, a side table and a chair in it.

Overview

Painting over dark walls can be challenging as dark paint tends to show through lighter shades. Although, it is possible to achieve a flawless look with Dulux Wash&Wear® +PLUS Super Hide Low Sheen in just a few steps.

Safety tip: Always wear the appropriate safety equipment (safety glasses, gloves, ear muffs and a mask, for example) and always follow the instructions for the product or equipment.

Steps

1Prepare the surface

  • Lay down a drop sheet and clean your walls with Selleys sugar soap.

2Apply Dulux Wash&Wear® +PLUS Super Hide Low Sheen

  • Ensure the surface is dry.
  • Apply Dulux 1Step® Prep Water Based Primer, Sealer & Undercoat to fill surfaces with cracks or holes.
  • Allow to dry for 20 minutes.

3Apply Dulux Wash&Wear® +PLUS Super Hide Low Sheen

  • Load your synthetic brush with Wash&Wear® +PLUS Super Hide and cut-in around the edges.
  • Next, load your roller and start working the paint from where you cut-in to blend the paint.
  • Lay-off your wall for a smooth and consistent finish.
  • Repeat the above steps for a second coat after two hours for perfect coverage.

Tip: Laying off your wall means giving it a smooth consistent finish and hiding those streaky brush strokes. Use an unloaded roller and minimal pressure on the wall. Start at the top left and make your way across and slightly overlap where you just rolled so that each panel rubs away the line from the previous lay-off.

4Keep in mind

  • Ensure safety and application directions are followed as per each product’s label.
  • Touch dry time is 30 minutes. Allow seven days before washing any newly painted surfaces.
