Cabot's Cabothane Clear Oil Based Varnish is a clear polyurethane for doors, windows, trim and furniture. It is a highly durable, hard wearing varnish.
PREPARATION
Note: Fill nail holes, cracks and other defects with Cabot's Wood Tone Putty after applying the first coat of this product for accurate colour matching. Remove stains, dirt, wax, grease and oil with mineral turpentine. Remove any polish with a suitable polish remover.
BARE EXTERIOR TIMBER
To coat new bare timber immediately, scrub damp timber with Cabot’s New Timber Prep, following label instructions. New Timber Prep will draw out tannins and oils quickly from the surface, allowing you to skip the 4-6 weeks weathering process required for new timber. Always follow New Timber Prep with Cabot’s Deck Clean following label instructions.
PREVIOUSLY COATED INTERIOR TIMBER
1. Thoroughly clean the surface with Cabot's Floor Clean and allow to dry. Sand with 180 - 240 grit sandpaper and remove all traces of sanding dust.
2. Apply one coat to a small test area. Allow to dry for 6 hours. Press sticky tape firmly to the surface and pull off quickly. If the coating comes off, sand back to bare timber.
3. If coating adheres well, sand the entire area with 180 - 240 grit paper for good adhesion, remove dust, then follow application instructions.
APPLICATION
Important - work in a well ventilated area and protect nearby surfaces from overspray.
1. Before spraying, shake can well for about 1 minute, ensure the mixing ball is moving vigorously inside the can.
2. Hold can approximately 20cm away from the surface. Apply light coats with a quick even motion, beginning and ending each stroke beyond the surface being sprayed until the desired finish is achieved.
Note: For exterior timber a minimum of 4 coats is recommended, depending on porosity of timber. Clear the nozzle after each use by turning the can upside down and spray for several seconds.
MAINTENANCE
Once your coating has worn and deteriorated, it's time for a re-coat.
1. Thoroughly clean the surface with Cabot's Floor Clean and allow to dry.
2. Sand with 180 - 240 grit sandpaper and remove all traces of sanding dust.
3. Then apply another coat of Cabothane Clear following label instructions.
