Acmena is an extremely hardy evergreen large shrub or small to medium tree in the garden. It has the ability to grow densely to the grown making it suitable for hedging and screening. Growing between 6 – 10mts tall and 2 – 5mts wide it is best kept as a hedge at approximately 3 - 4mts tall by 2mts wide.
It has masses of white flowers in summer which are followed by mauve, edible fruits. These fruits will attract the birds.
Acmena can grow in full sun or part shade and will tolerate most soil types including wet soil. It will tolerate light frosts. Mulch well and supply water in summer.
Acmena responds well to pruning and fertiliser in spring and late summer.
