- Beautiful flowers
- Suitable for many positions
Strelitzia reginae has long palm like leaves that are quite large and waxy, the plant grows a beautiful flower with orange and blue that resembles a bird. They will not grow the flower for a few years though. The bird of paradise is a very hardy plant that will tolerate just about any condition inside and out. They grow in tropical gardens but also out in the open in more temperate climates getting full frost and full summer sun.
It prefers a fairly bright position but will be happy in a dark area as the plants grow they clump from the base and they grow very thick roots which will push the plant out of its pot when it is too big, Pot up your Strelitzia when this happens, If it becomes too large for your position you are best to plant it in the garden. and in a few years you will be able to cut the flowers from it!
When you pot it up give it a little feed with slow release fertiliser, liquid feed once a month to keep looking fantastic.
