- The Polystichum will grow well in shady, rockeries in your garden, or a juvenile plant will look great as a feature indoors
- Just remember like most ferns they don't like direct sunlight

The Polystichum retroso-palaceum is native to Eastern Asia, Mexico, Africa and is commonly called Japanese Sword Fern.
The mature Polystichum retroso-palaceum have strong, woody, scaly rhizomes that may be spreading or erect, sometimes developing into a short, stocky trunk. The undersides of the leaflets are sometimes very scaly and are studded with rows of spore-bodies.
