Papaver orientale. A hardy perennial with large, long flowering ‘satiny’ blooms rising over clumps of lush and attractive, dissected foliage. These undemanding plants provide a real spectacle year after year, an excellent choice for mixed borders.
The name Papaver comes from the latin ‘pappa’, food or milk, alluding to the milky sap. A native of south west Asia, it was first formally recorded by the famous botanist Linneaus during the 18th Century.
