3 Christmas trees displayed n living room with Xmas lights and decorations.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a tree lovingly decorated with all your favourite ornaments. Find the perfect tree for your family with this easy guide.

Hang the stockings and deck the halls … Christmas is coming! There’s nothing quite like decorating the Christmas tree to get in the festive spirit and this year Bunnings has a huge range of trees that come in all colours, shapes and sizes.

There are also plenty of pre-lit Christmas trees that do away with the most frustrating part of the season: tangled fairy lights. To help you decide which tree is right for you, we’ve reviewed six of the best and gathered all the must-read Xmas tree tips, too. So, grab a mince pie and start planning for this year’s look.

Christmas classic

The tree: Mirabella Noble 1.8m Christmas Tree

If you’re the type who has a collection of treasured ornaments and special Christmas tree lights, then this is the tree for you. It’s the perfect blank canvas to create your dream tree, with a classic shape and loads of space on the pine-style branches for your ornaments. At 1.8 metres (6 foot), it’s a good size that won’t overcrowd your living room.

Top tip: To make sure your tree doesn’t look cramped – and there’s enough room for your star on top – go for a tree that’s about 30cm shorter than your ceiling height.

Christmas your way

The tree: Mirabella Noble Pre-lit 1.8m Dual Colour Christmas Tree

One of the most challenging parts of putting up a Christmas tree is getting the lights just right. There are either too many in one spot or not enough and getting them untangled can be a job in itself.

This tree answers those problems: it comes with 200 dual-colour LED lights already in place. There are nine different illumination settings from a calming soft glow to steady illumination or a dynamic sequential pattern. It’s also mounted on a metal base, making it extra sturdy and hinged branches for easier put up and pack down.

Top tip: Keep the box your tree comes in for easy storage. To pack it up, compress all the hinged branches together to save space.

White Christmas

The tree: Mirabella Aspen 1.6M Christmas Tree

Yes, it might be mid-summer in Australia at Christmas time, but you can still cool things down with this Aspen Christmas tree. It has 500 frosted-style tips and hinged branches, which make arranging the foliage that little bit easier. Picture this: one covered in warm yellow fairy lights and gold baubles for that on-trend tonal look you see all the celebs favouring.

Top tip: White trees look best when you keep it to a theme – tones of pinks, all silver or all gold. For a silvery look, go for cool white LED fairy lights.

Make a statement

The tree: Mirabella Coco Pre-lit 1.8m Pink Christmas Tree

We know what you’re thinking: ‘a pink Christmas tree, really?’ But Google pink Christmas trees and you’ll see just how glorious they can be. Because the tree is a statement piece, less is more when it comes to Christmas tree decorations. Try silver and white baubles – or to really dial it up – add some light blue baubles. The tree comes pre-lit with 200 warm white LED lights that cast off a soft glow.

Top tip: Avoid unsightly extension cords by placing your tree near a power point. If that’s not an option, tape the cord along the skirting board to stop it becoming a trip hazard.

Festive favourite with innovative storage

The tree: Mirabella Norway 2.1M Pop-up Christmas Tree

Got high ceilings? This is the tree for you – at 2.1m (7 foot) it’s perfect for large, roomy spaces. It’s a narrower, fuller style of Christmas tree with a natural texture and lots of room for decorations. This one has an innovative collapsible design so, while it’s tall, it’s relatively easy to pack away.

Top tip: Christmas trees look great placed in a window area but make sure you don’t block all the natural light. Slightly offsetting it against the window gives you the best of both worlds.

Luxe foliage

The tree: Mirabella Balmain Pre-lit 2.1m Christmas Tree

This tree has it all – good height for large rooms, gold-tipped branches for a luxe look and 340 warm white LED lights. There are eight lighting options but for a relaxed atmosphere, we suggest setting it to slow glow. To create an elevated theme, dress this tree with gold, rose gold and bronze-coloured baubles that will work seamlessly with the gold fronds on the tree.

Top tip: Professional tree stylists dress trees in segments – starting from the top, then the middle and finishing at the bottom. This helps make sure the tree looks balanced. When you’re done, stand back and look for any holes, then fill with small baubles.

Deck the halls

Decorating your home for the festive season is one of the best parts of Christmas. Start by doing an audit of what you already have from previous years. Items you need include a wreath, baubles, fairy lights and a Christmas tree skirt. Garlands with even more fairy lights can help tie the whole look together.

Once the inside is sorted, move outside – check out the Bunnings Outdoor Christmas Lights range for inspiration and chat to the neighbours about their plans, so you avoid any duplication. To save on big power bills, consider using solar powered Christmas lights this year.

Smart Christmas storage

Perhaps the best festive tip isn’t about decorating your home but rather how to pack and store the decorations. Do it right and you’ll thank yourself next year.

Storage containers are great for baubles, tinsel and other Christmas decorations. Make sure you wrap anything fragile in bubble wrap or brown paper. And as for those pesky fairy lights, don’t just jam them in a box. Wrap them around a piece of cardboard or grab a bespoke storage solution from Bunnings.
