  • Preserves and protects timber with a highly-durable clear finish
  • Enhances the natural characteristics of the timber grain
  • Transforms woodwork with rich, classic timber tones
  • Available in gloss or satin finish
A traditional timber stain combined with a professional clear polyurethane for one-step timber colour and protection. Stain and Varnish adds rich colour to timber and preserves the stain by protecting it with a highly durable clear finish. It enhances the natural characteristics of the timber grain and transforms interior furniture and woodwork with rich, classic timber tones. PREPARATION New Timber How to prepare New Timber: Sand to a smooth surface and remove all sanding dust before coating. TIP: Achieve that super-smooth finish (or if the timber grain is open or coarse) by applying a coat of Feast Watson Sanding Sealer and sand back as per the label instructions. For naturally oily timbers, seal the timber with Feast Watson Proofseal as per the label instructions prior to application. Previously Coated Timber: How to prepare Previously Coated Timber: Previously varnished surfaces need to be sanded to a dull finish. Remember to remove all sanding dust before coating! APPLICATION Make sure you love your colour! Using an off-cut or on a inconspicuous area, test the colour to ensure you are happy with your choice. Make sure the Stain and Varnish is thoroughly stirred through before starting (and during!). Avoid introducing any bubbles! Let's do this: Apply Stain & Varnish using a brush, roller or spray. - If spraying Stain & Varnish may be thinned by using 10% mineral turpentine. - If applying by roller, use a short nap (5mm) mohair roller. Ensure edges and end grain are fully coated. How to apply Stain and Varnish to new timber: If applying by spray, three coats are required. Achieved your colour after one coat? No worries. Just complete the following coats with Feast Watson Clear Varnish as additional coats of Stain & Varnish will intensify colour. Provide 12 hours drying time between coats. Remember to sand lightly between coats with a fine sandpaper to get the best results. If applying over a previous varnish coating, two coats will be sufficient. MAINTENANCE Keep an eye on the surface for any signs of colour loss or surface defects. When required, lightly sand the surface, and remember to remove all dust. Recoat with an additional coat of Clear Varnish as per application instructions.
