12 Pre-drill the holes to attach the decking
13 Attach the decking to the base
  • Step 1. Clear and measure

After deciding where you want to build your modular decking, clear the area of any debris. Measure the height and the width of the decking you want to build.

  • Step 2. Assemble the base frame

Identify the four pieces of wood that make up the base frame. They have pre-drilled, countersunk holes at the end and larger pre-drilled holes at the bottom. Use the drill and batten screws to join together the four pieces of wood to make the base frame.

  • Step 3. Attach the joists

Turn the base frame over. Use the drill and batten screws to attach the two joists through the pre-drilled holes. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to build any other base frames you need.
  • Step 4. Put the frame legs together

To assemble the legs, connect the support leg to the bracket and then screw in the adjustable foot to the support leg. Use the batten screws and drill to attach the support leg to the bracket. Repeat this process to make all of the frame legs.
  • Step 5. Attach the legs to the base frame

Turn the base frame over, so that it’s upside down. Place one of the legs, so that it’s flush with the corner. Secure the leg to the frame using the batten screws. Repeat this to attach all four legs.

  • Step 6. Put the base frames in place

Work out where you’re going to place your decking. If it’s on soil or grass, place a paver under each foot, to stop it from sinking. Mark where the pavers are.  Remove the pavers and base frame. Dig a shallow trench for the pavers to sit in. Put the pavers and base frame back in place.
  • Step 7. Make the frame level

Once your base frame is in place, use the spirit level to check that its level. Adjust the feet until it is.

  • Step 8. Clamp the base frames together

Place the second base frame next to the first. If necessary, place pavers under the legs. Clamp the two base frames together. Use the spirit level to make sure both frames are flush and level. If necessary, adjust the feet to make sure they are.

  • Step 9. Screw the bases together

Pre-drill six holes in the side of the base frames – two at each end, at the top and bottom and two in the middle at the top and bottom. Use the batten screws to secure the two base frames together.

  • Step 10. Make the deck level

After screwing the base frames together, use the spirit level to make sure the decking is level. Use the adjustable spanner to raise or lower the feet so that it’s level.  Secure the height of the feet by tightening the locking nuts at the top of the feet.

  • Step 11. Lay the decking

Lay the prefabricated decking panels on top of the base frames. Make sure that all of the gaps are even and the wood is aligned.

  • Step 12. Pre-drill the holes to attach the decking

To attach the decking, pre-drill eight holes into each panel. Drill one hole at both ends of the second board and two more where the supporting joists are. Repeat this on the fourth board on the panel and then for every panel.

  • Step 13. Attach the decking to the base

Use the cordless drill and screws to attach the decking to the base frames in the eight holes pre-drilled in each panel.
