Project Overview

The kitchen used to be a room where you just prepared meals. However, kitchen design has come a long way. Today’s kitchens are more open plan where you not only cook, but also eat, relax or simply hang out with the family. Watch how we take an old, cramped 70s kitchen and give it a stylish D.I.Y. makeover that suits modern living.

DIY screw and nail storage

If you have trouble finding screws or nails when you’re in your workshop, here’s an easy way to keep them organised and on hand. Grab a few plastic containers, any size you like, remove the lids and nail these to a piece of timber. Then separate your screws and nails into the different containers, and label them using masking tape and a pen. Finally, screw the containers back onto their lids and mount the timber under a shelf or workbench, so that they’re always within easy reach.

Health & Safety

Please make sure you use all equipment appropriately and safely when following the advice in these D.I.Y. videos. You need to be familiar with how to use equipment safely and follow the instructions that came with the equipment. If you are unsure, you may feel it is safest to consult an expert, such as the manufacturer or an expert Bunnings Team Member.

Grave health hazards are linked to asbestos, which may be in homes built up to 1990. Health hazards may result from exposure to lead-based paints in older materials and copper chromium arsenic (CCA) treated timber. For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer or visit our Health & Safety page. You can also use a simple test kit from Bunnings to indicate the presence of lead-based paint.
