Project Overview

An oven kitchen tower makes the most of the space in one of the most important rooms in your home. We’ll show you how to build the two drawers, the separate cabinets for your microwave and oven and the open cabinet. You’ll also see how to secure the tower to the wall and protect your cabinets from heat damage.

  • Step 1. Assemble the cabinet

Use the cordless drill and 50mm screws to join the top and back panels. Repeat this to attach the bottom and back panels. Use the drill and screws supplied to attach the two side panels to the top bottom and side panels. Repeat this process to build the second drawer cabinet.

  • Step 2. Attach the feet to the cabinet

Turn the drawer upside down. Use the cordless drill and screws to attach the four bases of the feet into the small pre-drilled holes. Make sure the sloped angle on the feet points towards the outside of the cupboard to help distribute the weight.

  • Step 3. Attach the adjustable feet to the bases

Attach the adjustable feet to the bases by clicking the four legs into place. Then screw in the adjustable feet and use the set square to set each leg to a height of 145mm.

  • Step 4. Attach the drawer runners to the cabinet

Separate the drawer runner into two pieces by pulling the runner from the bracket and pushing in the button on the runner. Use the cordless drill and screws to attach the bracket using the pre-drilled holes. Now drill a 2mm hole for the smaller screw to attach the runner to the cabinet. Repeat this for the other drawer runner and to attach the runners to the second cabinet.

  • Step 5. Build the drawer

Use the cordless drill to attach the front and back panels to the drawer base panel. Then attach the left and right panels to the base. Repeat this to build the drawer for the second cabinet.

  • Step 6. Attach the drawer runners

Turn the drawer onto its side. Use the cordless drill and screws to attach the runners to the drawer. Turn the drawer over and repeat the process. Slide the drawer into the cabinet. Repeat this attach the drawer runners to the second cabinet.

  • Step 7. Attach the drawer panel

Use the tape measure to measure the distance from the base of the cabinet to the bottom of the drawer. Transfer this measurement onto the back of the drawer panel. Use the spirit level to draw a straight line across the drawer panel.

  • Step 8. Secure the drawer panel

Place the drawer front on the back of the drawer panel, flush with the line you’ve drawn on it. Make sure the drawer is an equal distance from the sides of the panel. Clamp the drawer to the front panel. Pre-drill four holes in each corner of the drawer.  Secure the drawer to front panel using the cordless drill and screws.  Repeat Steps 6 and 7 to attach and secure the drawer panel to the second cabinet.

  • Step 9. Build the microwave box

Using the cordless drill, screw the 50mm screws to join the top panel of the microwave box to the back panel. Repeat this to attach the bottom panel to the back panel. Use the drill and screws to attach the two side panels to the top bottom and side panels.

  • Step 10. Build the slimline cabinet

Using the cordless drill, screw the 50mm screws to join the top panel of the slimline cabinet to the back panel. Repeat this to attach the bottom panel to the back panel. Use the drill and screws to attach the two side panels to the top bottom and side panels
  • Step 11. Join the two drawer cabinets.

Remove the drawers from the cabinets and place the second cabinet on top of the first. Line them up so that they are flush and clamp them. Pre-drill a hole in each corner, on the inside of the top cabinet, and screw the two cabinets together.

  • Step 12. Join the slimline cabinet to the microwave box

Place the slimline cabinet on top of the microwave box. Leave a 20mm gap for the cabinet door between the edge of the cabinet and the box. Clamp the box and cabinet together. Pre-drill a hole in each corner, on the inside of the slimline cabinet. Then screw the cabinet and microwave box together.

  • Step 13. Prepare to assemble the oven tower

There are several steps involved in assembling the oven tower, so you will need some help during these stages. When building the oven tower, you can either use the cabinet installation and levelling stands, or lay the oven tower side panel on the ground on a piece of cardboard. Either way, make sure the slightly bevelled edge of the panel is facing out.

  • Step 14. Attach the cabinet drawers

Lay the cabinet drawers on their side, near the bottom of the oven tower panel. The cabinets need to be 145mm from the bottom, and 20mm from the front of the panel. Once you have the cabinets in position, drill screws into each corner of both cabinets to secure them to the panel.

  • Step 15. Attach the microwave box and slimline cabinet

Lay the joined microwave box and slimline cabinets at the end of the oven tower panel. Make sure the top of the cabinet and the panel are level. Pre-drill holes in each corner of both cabinets, then screw the box and cabinet to the tower panel. Repeat Steps 13 and 14 to attach the second tower panel and stand the oven tower upright.

  • Step 16. Attach the oven cleats

Place the cleat on the side of the tower where the oven will be. Set it back 20mm from the front and clamp it in place. Pre-drill three holes in the cleat and secure it with the screws. Repeat this process to attach the other cleat.

  • Step 17. Install the heat deflector

Sit the heat deflector flush with the edge of the oven tower. Pre-drill holes through the holes in heat deflector. Use the 10mm screws to attach the deflector. Repeat this process to attach the other deflector.

  • Step 18. Attach the face panel

Pre-drill holes at either end of the face panel to attach an angle bracket. Secure the angle bracket using the screws supplied. Put the angle bracket in position and use the screws to fix it from behind. If there is a gap between the face panel and microwave box, attach another angle bracket at the back of the face panel to close it.

  • Step 19. Attach the fixing rail

Use the drill and screws to attach an angle bracket at each end of the fixing rail. Hold the fixing rail at the top of the back panel of the oven tower. Use the cordless drill and screws to secure the rail to the sides of the tower.

Please make sure you use all equipment appropriately and safely when following the advice in these D.I.Y. videos. You need to be familiar with how to use equipment safely and follow the instructions which came with the equipment. If you are unsure, you may feel it is safest to consult an expert, such as the manufacturer or an expert Bunnings team member.
