Step by Step Instructions

1 Tracing your templates
2 Making the eye holes
3 Assembling your mask
4 Adding the string
  • Step 1. Tracing your templates

For the first step you’ll need to cut out your templates. These are available to print on the project page. Once you have cut your template pieces out, trace them on to the foam. You can use whatever colours you like! When you have finished tracing them, use some scissors to cut them out. For the face piece, fold the foam along the flat edge and cut around the shape.

  • Step 2. Making the eye holes

Once you’ve cut out your mask shape, place two fingers over your closed eyes and transfer them to the mask. Draw two dots where your fingers are, these will be where your eye holes will go. Now draw a circle the size of your eye around each of the dots and cut them out. Now lay the eye pieces over the holes and trace the eye holes onto them. Cut these out.

  • Step 3. Assembling your mask

Now that you have all your shapes it’s time to stick them together. Using craft glue, stick your eyes and eyebrows to your mask. For the beak, cut the corner off a piece of yellow foam and stick it under the eyes.

  • Step 4. Adding the string

The last step is to add some string to your mask so you can tie it up. Using a hole punch make a hole on either side of the mask. Cut two pieces of string to about 25cm and tie each one through the holes. These will tie up around the back of your head when you wear the mask.

And that’s the last step! Now you have a colourful owl mask to wear to your next party. It’s a fun and easy project to make at home.
