Step by Step Instructions

1 Rope lettering
2 Painting a striped letter, putting the tape on
3 Painting the letter
4 Revealing your pattern
  • Step 1. Rope lettering

For the first letter we’re going to decorate it with rope. Choose your favourite colours of rope. Put some craft glue on the letter so the rope holds on, and start winding the rope around your letter. Make sure it’s tight so that it doesn’t come off. When you’ve done one colour you can switch to the next.

To finish off, put a little bit of glue on the end of the rope and push it down.

  • Step 2. Painting a striped letter, putting the tape on

The next letter we’re going to do is one with stripes. Using some painters tape, tear off small strips and place them across your letter. Leave small gaps between each piece of tape to make sure you can paint part of the letter.

  • Step 3. Painting the letter

Now it’s time to paint! Grab your favourite colour and brush and get painting. You can paint over the tape as we’ll take this off in the next step. Do two coats if you want a brighter colour.

  • Step 4. Revealing your pattern

Once your paint is dry you can pull the tape off and reveal your pattern. This can also be done as any other pattern you like so experiment with other patterns.

And there we have it, two easy ways to decorate your letters. There are 1000’s of other ways you can decorate your letters, what can you think of?
