1. Make bunting flags

Make the flags first. Select your colour and fold the paper into quarters to make a baby rectangle. Next find the centre and cut from there to the top corner. Rotate the paper and cut from the bottom up to the top.  You should have made two flags. Open these up to create a diamond shape.

2. Thread the string

Get some string and thread it through the centre of the diamond. Glue one side of the flag. Then fold the paper over so that it sticks to make a single flag for your bunting. Repeat that process with lots of different coloured paper.

3. Create a card

To make your card, fold a piece of paper in half. Next get creative and draw on the front. Be sure to paint a picture that your bear will love. We drew a bear, but you could make anything you like. Use your pencils to colour your drawing in.  Then write a happy birthday note inside.

4. Design your party hat

To make your party hat, download our template. We drew spots and rainbows on ours, but you could make any design you like. Carefully cut out your party hat. Use scissors to cut around the black lines of the template.  When cutting the slots, fold your hat in half and make a small cut along the slot. Open up the paper – you should have made a small hole.

5. Add some ribbons

Turn the hat over so your drawing is face down. Select your ribbon. Measure it out so that it’s a little longer than the party hat. To make a pretty hat, choose a couple of colours. Then sticky tape the three pieces of ribbon to the hat.

6. Finish off the hat

Make your hat into a cone. Fold the edges of the tabs and tuck them in.  Flip the tabs back out and secure it inside with some masking tape. Attach some elastic, so you can wear your party hat. To get an idea of the length it needs to be, measure the elastic around your head. Then cut to size and staple it to both sides of your hat. You might need an adult to help with this. To make it really fancy, stick on some pom poms like we did, or add some glitter.

7. Party time

Put your hat on, hang the bunting and you’re ready to party. Invite bear and his friends and have a picnic.
