Continue to Step-by-step instructions.

Step by Step Instructions

1 Paint your pots
2 Paint your bases
3 Cut the black felt
4 Cut the white felt
5 Add details to the belt
6 Make the belt buckle
7 Glue felt to the base
8 Put on Santa’s belt
9 Pot your plants
  • Step 1. Paint your pots

Lay out some newspaper on your workspace so you don’t make a mess. Start by painting your two terracotta pots bright red to make Santa’s legs.

  • Step 2. Paint your bases

Then paint the pot bases black to make his little boots.

  • Step 3. Cut the black felt

While you’re waiting for the paint to dry, you can start on the belt. Cut the black felt into two strips about 3cm wide, long enough to wrap around the two pots.

  • Step 4. Cut the white felt

Now cut two strips of white felt, about 2.5cm wide, to wrap around the pot base.

  • Step 5. Add details to the belt

Use the end of a small paint brush handle to paint small white dots around the edges of the felt for detail.

  • Step 6. Make the belt buckle

Cut your yellow foam into a rectangle. Paint some glue over one side of the foam and sprinkle gold glitter on top. Now cut a small square of black felt and glue that over the middle of the buckle. Glue your buckle to the black belt strips.

  • Step 7. Glue felt to the base

Paint some glue onto the back of your two white felt strips. Wrap a strip around the base of each pot to make the tops of Santa’s boots.

  • Step 8. Put on Santa’s belt

Line up the pots together, wrap the belt around the top of the pots, and staple the ends together.

  • Step 9. Pot your plants

Now you’re ready to fill your pots with soil and some festive plants or flowers. We’ve used mini conifers or you could try red Poinsettias.
