  • Step 1. Creating your trees

The first step is to trace and cut out your Christmas tree shapes. Using the template provided, trace around the edges of it onto both your pieces of balsawood.

  • Step 2. Assembling your decoration

Once you have done that, carefully cut the trees with some scissors. Small hint: make little horizontal cuts on the angled parts of the tree to avoid splitting.

  • Step 3. Making cuts for assembly

Before we decorate, cut one slit up to the middle of the tree from the bottom and repeat on the other tree from the top.

  • Step 4. Painting your tree

Now it’s time to paint! Choose a nice bright green to make your tree look like a real Christmas tree. Use long strokes to give it a nice even finish. You may need to do two coats if the paint is thin.

  • Step 5. Decorating your tree

When the paint is dry, put some dots of glue on the points of each of your trees and stick some shiny decorations on there. We’ve used sequins but you can use anything you like.

  • Step 6. Assembling you tree

Using the slits we cut before, slide the two trees together to make one tree. The tree should now stand by itself.

  • Step 7. Adding the star

Add the final touch to your tree by gluing a yellow pom pom to the top of your tree.

  • Step 8. Giving your tree a base

To finish off your tree, glue it to the green plate and put some Christmas coloured rocks or pebbles around the base.

  • Step 9. Finished Product

And there you go, a beautiful table decoration to use at Christmas!
