Buon appetito

Make your alfresco setting unique by customising a table covering to suit your scheme, here’s how!

What you need

24mm and 48mm-wide painter’s tape

Measuring tape

Plastic-backed canvas drop sheet (larger than your table)

Sample pots tinted in chosen colours (we used Dulux Harpoon and Taubmans Red Glow and Silky Blue)

Three 60mm mini foam rollers and trays

1. Measure, position and chop

Measure the table width and length, adding 40mm to both measurements to allow for a 20mm hang on all sides. Position the drop sheet on a flat surface, mark out the measurements and cut with scissors.

2. Place the tape

Position parallel rows of masking tape along the drop sheet, alternating the widths between them from 10mm to 40mm.

3. Apply your paint

Use a different roller for each colour to lightly apply paint to the widths. Leave to dry, then remove the tape to reveal neat stripes.

Tip: To protect your tablecloth, apply a sealer such as Mod Podge once the paint has dried. After use, wipe the tablecloth clean with a damp cloth (don’t soak or machine-wash)
