Four ways to a faster clean

With moments to spare before the doorbell rings, you can still get your home sparkling.

Bunnings magazine, August 2020

It’s been a busy week, and between one thing and another, housekeeping has fallen down the to-do list. But if you’ve got guests on the way, and moments to make the house look immaculate, there’s no need to fear; with some clever products to help, your house will look its best in no time!

Dust Devil

We all know that person whose eagle eyes are drawn to the one part of the house you couldn’t reach. Don’t get caught out by stray dust. Before company calls, give those areas a quick flick with the Oates Wool Duster with Telescopic Handle, which is tall enough to scoop out cobwebs from cornices or dust from tall cabinets.

For an even cleaner clean: Periodically washing the wool duster will help it last longer and work harder at keeping your home pristine. Wash in a sink full of warm water and dishwashing detergent, rinse with clean water and hand wring out as much water as possible. Then use your hands to rub one tablespoon of glycerin into the lambswool to restore any oils washed away.

Pet Peeve

A thick pelt of dog hair is the sort of accessory your couch does not need! Before guests perch on your sofa and collect a layer of fur on their good clothes, swipe it away with an Oates Electrostatic Pet Hair Brush. Rubber bristles quickly collect stray strands into clumps that you can easily pick up and pop in the bin before anyone sees them.

For an even cleaner clean: Use the pet hair brush on any surface, from clothes to car seats and carpet – swiping over the rug will grab those hairs the vacuum struggles to pick up. The rubber bristles can be easily cleaned in warm soapy water, when needed.

Sweeping Statement

Just as the doorbell rings, you spot some stray crumbs! Keep the Oates Space Saver Dustpan Set in an easy-access spot for just such emergencies. The rubber blade and electrostatic bristles are more effective than a regular brush, making cleaning up those pesky strays a breeze.

For an even cleaner clean: Use the Space Saver Dustpan Set anywhere that needs a quick spruce up; brush it over the skirting boards, use it to swipe away any obvious cobwebs, or use it to tackle dust and dirt on the stairs – so much quicker than getting out the vacuum!

Floor Show

When you want shiny floors speedily, the most efficient tool is a three-in-one mop like the Oates Triple Action Flat Mop. Its three mop pads (refills available) can be changed in seconds. Start with the microfibre sweeping pad to scoop up dust, swipe over the floor with the mopping pad, then use a finishing cloth to get the floor dry and ready to walk on in no time.

For an even cleaner clean: Walls are often forgotten but tend to collect a fur coat of dust or even, especially in the kitchen, a layer of grease. Washing them by hand is an absolute punishment, but did you know you can do it with a flat mop? Use a clean microfibre mop pad (with refills on hand for big jobs) and you’ll have those walls clean with way less effort.
