Tools and materials needed to steam clean carpet

1. Vacuum first

Before you begin your steam clean, move your furniture out of the way and give your carpet a good vacuum, using the vacuum cleaner you already have at home. The more loose dirt you can vacuum up at this stage the easier the rest of the job will be. Once you’ve done this, take a trip to your local Bunnings and hire one of our special carpet cleaning machines – they’re inexpensive and a great way to get that professional clean at home by doing it yourself.

2. Spot spray

Before you get started, find any stains and give them a good spot spray with your stain remover. Let the spray soak in for ten minutes, then blot with a clean damp cloth. Work from the outside of the stain towards the middle. Once you have treated all your spot stains, give the carpet another vacuum.

Applying carpet spray

3. Apply your de-foamer

This is really important – apply two capfuls of your de-foamer into ‘Tank A’. If you don’t do this step your dirty water is going to overflow onto your newly cleaned carpet – and no one wants that! Don’t forget to put the lid back on.

4. Add some tap water

Add nine litres of hot tap water into ‘Tank B’ and three capfuls of carpet cleaner. Once you’ve done all that, you’re ready to go.

5. Start your steam clean

Press the ‘Pump’ button to start pumping out the solution. Pull the lever and begin cleaning – the solution will spray out as you go. This isn’t like vacuuming – use long, slow strokes and drag your nozzle across your carpet. Ahh – SO satisfying!

6. You’re ready to vacuum the moisture

Once you’ve soaked your carpet with the solution, press ‘Vac’ and start vacuuming up all your moisture. Remember to check ‘Tank A’ every now and again to throw out your dirty water – you’ll be amazed at the grossness you’ve managed to suck up. Once you’ve finished, give your carpet a few hours to fully dry before moving your furniture back in.

7. And you’re done!

How easy was that? Not only does your carpet look fantastic, it also smells great too! You’re ready for your rent inspection and you’ve saved a heap of cash in the process – winning!
