The Burdekin Plum is a native tree producing richly dark-purple, tart fruits similar to plums. The fruit can be eaten raw, or cooked into a jam, meat accompaniment or even wine.
Burdekin plum's foliage is neat and provides beautiful shade for those hot summer days in the garden. It also provides habitat for lizards, birds and other creatures and will bring the bees too.
Though it is a rainforest species, it is incredibly hardy and drought tolerant. In the wild, it may also occur naturally on sand dunes behind mangroves and in dry sub-coastal regions along the northeast coast.
