Water heating is the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions from the average Australian home, accounting for around 23 per cent of household emissions. Installing a climate friendly hot water system can save a family hundreds of dollars off their energy bills each year.

Rebate Details:
The Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme(REBS) is available to help eligible home-owners, landlords or tenants to replace electric storage hot water systems with solar or heat pump hot water systems. Under the Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme, eligible households can claim a rebate of $1 000 for a solar hot water system or $600 for a heat pump hot water system.

To be eligible for the rebate under REBS your system must generate 20 or more small-scale technology certificates (STCs) at the time of purchase. The system must be a new and complete hot water system that replaces an existing electric storage hot water system previously operational at the dwelling.

Applications must be received by the Department within four months (122 days) of an eligible system being installed

Please note: if you have already claimed the ceiling insulation rebate of $1600 you are not eligible for the solar hot water rebate.
