Days Of Change

During May 2010 Bunnings will support the Days of Change program which encourages West Australians to take simple actions to become more sustainable in their homes and gardens.

Bunnings will support four pledges related to water saving, energy saving and waste reduction and provide free D.I.Y. workshops and advice
.

 Save Water In The Bathroom

Install a water effecient shower head (WELS rated 3 star or above) or 9L/min flow restrictor to your shower.

Water efficient shower heads use up to 30% less water than a normal shower head and can be easily installed in your home. WELS rated shower heads use only 9 litres of water per minute.

 Save Water In The Garden

 Veggie Garden

If you have unnecessary lawn reduce the area by 25m2 and replace with native or waterwise plants or a waterwise veggie garden.
Waterwise vegetable gardens, native trees and drought resistant plants are a great sustainable garden alternative as they generally require lower maintenance and save on your water usage. Growing your own vegetables also saves money and is a great D.I.Y. project for the whole family.

 Save Energy At Home

Dry your clothes on a clothes line/rack instead of a dryer and do your laundry in cold water 8 out of 10 times.
By using sun and wind instead of electricity to dry your clothes you can reduce the amount of energy used in your home and save money on your power bills as well.

Compost

Divert at least 50% of your garden and food waste from landfill, to composting, a worm farm or chooks.
Composting is a great way of reducing food and garden waste and is easy to do for every household. Compost provides soil nutrients and can be dug into the garden or used as a mulch and worm castings can be used as a natural fertilizer.
