 Flowers to Sow 

Hollyhocks, stocks and forget-me-nots.  It is also a good time to grow new plants for free by taking cuttings from favourite shrubs.
 Vegies to Sow 
Baby Beets - Can be grown all year round. They are quick to grow and full of flavour. Sowing in trays of Yates Seed Raising Mix will allow all seedlings from each cluster to be transplanted later. Pull beets while young and tender to obtain best taste.
 January Pruning 
Pick strawberries regularly and make sure they're well watered during dry periods.
 Fertilising in January
For a wonderful Autumn rose display, cut back now and fertilise with a rose food.
 January Projects 

Spray apples, pears and hawthorns with Success to control pear and cherry slug.  Dusting these pests with baked flour or wood ash will also reduce their numbers.

Seed of the Month

Radish

Are an ideal salad variety which is quick and easy to grow. It is also great for children's gardens. Grow in an open, sunny position,  working  in compost and Thrive Granular All Purpose Fertiliser before sowing. Sow in drills direct in garden.

 

Water Saving Tip

Spray vulnerable plants with Yates Stressguard, which reduces the amount of water lost through the leaves.  It also protects from sunburn, heat and wind.
