"How to create the complete rain harvesting system"
Follow the steps below and use the diagram as a guide to create the complete rain harvesting system.
Step 1
Check that the roof surface is suitable for collecting quality rainwater.
Step 2
Install gutter mesh to prevent leaves and debris from blocking gutters.
Step 3
Fit gutter outlets to the underside of the gutter to prevent obstruction of water flow.
Step 4
Fit leaf eater-beater rain heads to downpipes to stop gutters blocking. This will deflect leaves and debris and keep mosquitoes out of pipes that hold water.
Step 5
Install a water diverter to prevent the first flush of most contaminated rainwater from entering the tank.
Step 6
Ensure the tank screen is installed at the tank entry point to filter water and keep mosquitoes and pests out.
Step 7
Choose a water tank. When determining the right size of the tank, remember to consider annual rainfall, roof catchment area and water usage. Feel free to speak to one of our Team Members for some helpful advice.
Step 8
Attach insect proof screens or flap valves to the end of all pipes to the tank screen and to tank overflow outlets to keep mosquitoes and pests out and ensure the tank is well vented.
Step 9
If necessary, utilise a tank 'Top-Up' system to automatically top-up the tank with mains water when water levels fall to a designated minimum level.
Step 10
If necessary, select a pump system to distribute water for use inside or outside the home.
Remember to consider local council requirements and have a plumber complete installation where required.
RAINWATER TANKS
Available through Special Orders
Tanks are available in many different shapes, sizes and colours with compact designs now available to suit smaller residential properties. As tanks can be connected the best solution may be several smaller tanks rather than one large tank, or alternatively multiple tanks located at different down pipes.
FIRST FLUSH WATER DIVERTER
F/L 4760933
Fitting an appropriately sized water diverter is critical to achieve good quality water. Water diverters improve water quality and reduce tank maintenance by preventing the first flush of water, which may contain roof contaminants, from entering the tank. The diverter chamber empties through a slow release valve and can be connected to a standard drip irrigation system.
NYLEX TANK STANDS
F/L 4815045 (100L Stand)
F/L 4810647 (330L Stand)
F/L 4814968 (600L Stand)
F/L 4810184 (1000L Stand)
Tank stands provide you with extra height to increase the effects of gravity (increase the flow) of your stored water.
GARDENA TRANSFER PUMPS
F/L 4810101 (Max flow 3000L per hour)
F/L 4810102 (Max flow 4000L per hour)
Ideal in combination with a rainwater tank for watering the garden, washing the car or conveying water over distances. Double outlet allows simultaneous operation of two connected devices (eg. sprinkler and trigger nozzle).
