Disaster Relief Appeals

Disaster Relief AppealsIn 2011 Bunnings has provided ongoing support to the relief efforts for the Queensland floods and Christchurch earthquake.

Queensland Premiers Disaster Relief Fund
Bunnings stores and customers across Australia and New Zealand helped raise more than $730,000 for the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal through a combination of donations and fundraising sausage sizzles.

Bunnings also committed a further $1 million to directly support impacted local communities in Queensland with their recovery and rebuilding efforts and has been actively supported by on-the-ground assistance from Bunnings Team Members.

Christchurch Earthquake Appeal
Over NZ$130,000 was raised for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal through Community Family Events held in Australian and New Zealand stores, along with BBQs held across New Zealand. Bunnings also contributed a further NZ$100,000 to the Appeal consisting of a $50,000 donation to the Red Cross and $50,000 to support local community projects in areas affected by the earthquake.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation ArmyDuring the month leading up to Christmas 2010, The Salvation Army was supported by Bunnings in New South Wales, the ACT, South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania. 'The Salvos' collected money in stores, as Team Members ran Sausage Sizzles in return for customer donations, leading to a total contribution of over $50,000. Throughout May, Bunnings also assisted with fundraising for the Salvation Army’s annual Red Shield Appeal, with Salvation Army volunteers in our stores across Australia shaking tins to assist in fundraising.

St Vincent de Paul Society

St Vincent de Paul SocietyStores in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory supported the St Vincent de Paul Society over the 2010 Christmas period. Through sausage sizzles and donation collections, Bunnings assisted the Society in raising over $39,000.

Local Emergency Services

Over the new year period in 2010-11, Bunnings supported local emergency services groups in each state during December and January, raising $91,000. Groups were provided with the opportunity to undertake fundraising Sausage Sizzles, collect money and set up displays in our stores. A further $100,000 was contributed by Dulux, who provided a $5 donation from every tin of over 4 litres of Weathershield paint sold in Bunnings stores to local emergency services.

Anzac Day 2011

In the weeks leading up to ANZAC Day 2011, stores assisted local RSL, Legacy, Rotary and Lions groups by undertaking a revamp of a memorial or outside area. Stores around the country joined in on a variety of activities – planting potted colour and rosemary, repainting fences and renovating cenotaphs. Local groups were also invited in store to sell ANZAC badges.

'Paint Your Community'

For the third year running, during March stores around Australia chose local hospitals, schools and community groups to carry out painting and refurbishing activities. Team Members visited the groups to share their time and skills repainting halls and walls, creating murals and updating outside areas for the groups.

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia – Father's Day Fundraising

This August and September in the lead up to Fathers Day, Bunnings will for the fourth year running be assisting with fundraising for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA). In support, stores will be running a variety of activities in conjunction with PCFA volunteers, including sausage sizzles, awareness-raising displays and donation collections.
